Homeless Pride Still Alive,Still Committed

Hello fellow friend`s and acivist of Homeless Pride, yes I know you`ve been wondering what happen to those courageous group of individual`s who decided to take a stand and start the first of it`s kind movement, and begin the protest in the city of New Orleans (Right outside the step`s of our horrendous Goverment leaders I might add) that would change and touch the lives of so many.Be of good cheer and rest assure that many members as well as non-members have been truly blessed by the fortitude of a dedicated few. However, though I rejoice in our minor accomplishment, there is much more work to do.The powers that be will have you to believe that a monumental duty was accomplished in helping clear Duncan Plaza,I say it was only there rightful duty to do what they are paid to do.Be aware that there are still thousand`s in this region who are being deprived of the basic needs in life.I for one would like to apologize to those of you who have visited our site and have seen it neglected for so long ,that my friends is due to the limited access to a computer;Yet I feel I should have tried harder.I ask those of you out there who still care to visit our site as it will be soon updated with new photo`s ,video ,and new`s updates.I thank you for your support and remind you that the struggles of the disadvanteged and less fortunate continue. This message if you didn`t know already is from Julius Nelson;President of Homeless Pride.MAY GOD BLESS. “hello mmy naME IS RAYMOND TONY BATISTE

Hello, I’ts Raymond Batiste again may I first extend my gratitude to Brian and Travis for this beautiful web, our link to you is always possible. Among ourselves and dedicated buisness associates. plans of a meeting, hopefully the boards dreames are very near. Myself or Julius Nelson will keep you posted.  Later Tony

Good morning and a happy belated holiday to all of you out there, from the Homeless Pride family. This is Julius again reporting to you from the public library on the on going events at the encampment at Duncan Plaza, since I last reported not much has changed my people who are left at the camp ” which is approx.. 150 in numbers”continue to suffer as they try to tough it out until the so call help arrives. We have been informed that while we were first promised that everyone in Duncan Plaza would recieve assistance,we are now bieng told by the so called ADVOCATES for the HOMELESS that they can only help 30 more individuals. My question is this?WHY DID 3.9 MILLION help so little. The board members of Homeless Pride do intend to find an answer to this and the many more pressing questions to why money that is granted to the people of New Orleans never seem to reach the hands of the people.Once again this is Julius reporting for Homeless Pride encouraging everyone out there help support our cause and let your voice be heard.

Nov.21 2007

This is Julius reporting from public library on the events of Homeless Pride for today. The encampment at Duncan Plaza was over run today by several of the agencies who claim to be advocates for the homeless as well as the less fortunate citizens of New Orleans, providing what they see as an alternative solution to our problem. While many of the residents in our community see this as a great victory Homeless Pride views it as nothing more than a smoke screen, in an attempt  by these agencies as well as city goverment to cover up there black eye an hide there failure before it becomes exposed to the tourist that will embark upon New Orleans this upcoming weekend. So while many will settle for the crumbs that are thrown there way, Homeless Pride will continue there mission and remain in Duncan Plaza until the permanent and concrete solution to the disease of homelessness is found. There has been word that those who would not settle for the bandaid fixture that was proposed, will be thrown out of Duncan Plaza by millitary force TONIGHT , something just isn’t right when the U.S MILLITARY has to be used on homeless and the less fortunate in this country we call our own.  Once again this is Julius Nelson President of Homeless Pride encouraging you out there to get in the fight and help support a worthy cause.

Who we are

Our organization started July 4, 2007, when a small gathering of people began sleeping under a gazebo in plain sight of City Hall. Since then, a group upwards of 300 people without homes have united together in peaceful Duncan Plaza outsize of New Orleans City Hall. In the post-Katrina city, the number of homeless have nearly doubled from 6,300 to over 12,000, while the median rent price has increased 65% and public housing has not been reopened.

Homeless Pride is not looking to perpetuate their current situation by accepting the food and water the city has offered them. Conversely, Homeless Pride wants the city of New Orleans to dig deep and solve the very root of the problem. New Orleans City Hall must acknowledge several shortcomings such as a shortage of beds for the homeless as well as the extreme spike in rent cost, especially in efficiency housing, and the closing of public housing. More than 30% of the residents in the Homeless Pride community have jobs, but cannot afford rent in New Orleans. Many more are either elderly or physically or mentally disabled. It is not the goal of Homeless Pride to continue to be a drain on the government. Instead, they want to spark interest in truly reforming the city.

Homeless Pride, led by 32-year-old Julius Nelson, will get their message to the local New Orleans government. If government officials cannot afford the time to walk down to the plaza, it is our hope they can at least log on to this website and monitor the gloomy conditions in which their constituents are forced to live. We will include video coverage of the community as well as regular blog entries from Julius. Feel free to email Julius directly at Julius@homelesspride.org.

These are real people with real hardships. Support us… the Homeless Pride.
